2 Minute Movie Reviews

In Theaters Now:

"127 Hours" - 3 (out of 5) stars - "A rather lighthearted and slightly fun movie up until...well, you know. The cinematography is very interesting with lots of variety and creative shots. The story itself, though, as a film at least, drags slightly, especially since we all know the ending. It's also one of the most disgusting and uncomfortable things I've ever seen on a screen. I've watched countless gross horror movies and never had an issue; I had to close my eyes in this film since I felt both sick to my stomach and faint. I think reviewer's are getting hung up on Aron Ralston's extraordiary true life story and sympathetically calling this a fantastic film."

"Another Year" - 4 stars - "Yet another excellent film from Mike Leigh that focuses on characters and standard plot development. This film, like many of Leigh's movies, has a way of making the viewer feel like another guest of the main couple, Tom and Gerri, allowing you to go through the same wide range of emotions and events that occur throughout the story. The film may not have a thick plot line that can be summed up cleanly but definitely sticks with you days after viewing."

On DVD:

"Devil" - 2 stars - "Another film from M. Night Shyamalan which once again clearly displays that, while his ideas may be interesting, they cannot be executed to their full potential. The film suffers from countless bits of unrealistic dialogue, goofy characterizations, and various tidbits which both annoy the viewer and ruin the suspense angle."

"Jack Goes Boating" - 3 stars - "An interesting look at the beginning of an unlikely couple while a societal "normal" couple destructs in the background. The film leaves the viewer feeling uncomfortable, unsure, and slightly confused and yet somehow a bit satisfied."
